An Advanced Driver Improvement course is required under two circumstances:
- When a person's driver's license has been suspended. If your license has been suspended for points, you are required to attend a 12 hour advanced driver improvement course as required by section 322.291, Florida Statute.
- When a person is court ordered to take the course.
The National Safety Council's ATTITUDINAL DYNAMICS OF DRIVING (ADD) has been approved by the Florida DHSMV as an Advanced Driver Improvement Course.
Businesses may also want to consider using ADD. It is very effective for company drivers who have poor driving records. The course can be taught on your site, or attendance can be required during our classes at the Safety Council.
The Florida-approved version of ADD encompasses two National Safety Council courses, Attitudinal Dynamics of Driving and Coaching the Experienced Driver II.

The ADD curriculum stresses the consequences of offensive driving: accidents, moving violations, and eventual loss of one's drivers license. It's a common-sense approach that emphasizes group discussion and active dialog.
The first 8 hours of the course covers:
- EXPECTATIONS AND NEEDS:
Five Basic Needs
Individual driving problems
Major causes of traffic tickets and collisions
- NEEDS VERSUS WANTS, AND BEHAVIORS:
Personal choice and behavior control
Driving: reality, responsibility, and right versus wrong
- IT'S YOUR CHOICE--EFFECTIVE BEHAVIORS:
4 components of total behavior
Effective behavior plans
- PERSONAL PLAN OF ACTION AND CONSEQUENCES
Improving driving record with a good behavior plan
local and state licensing record systems
causes for license revocation and suspension
Participants make personal plans for better choices in the future, and then the last four hours of the course incorporates the National Safety Council's COACHING THE EXPERIENCED DRIVER II, a course designed for drivers who already think they drive defensively. Specifically designed to counter bad driving habits, the final segment of class offers a comprehensive coverage of collision prevention techniques in a conversational, non-lecture formal.
Course length:
12 hours (Now over a 2 night period from 4 PM to 10
PM.)
